THE LIVING UNIVERSE: Where are we? Who are we? Where are we going?
with Duane Elgin
Friday, November 20th, 2009 – 7:30 - 9:00pm
(There is no charge for this event)
Duane Elgin will speak about his new book and the stunning insights
emerging from science and spirituality that offer a new understanding
of the universe, ourselves, and the human journey. Duane brings
together evidence from cosmology, biology and physics to suggest that
the universe is not fragmented and dead but rather unified and alive—
an insight that, in turn, is in harmony with all of the world’s major
spiritual traditions. A living universe perspective radically
transforms our concept the cosmos, our identity as beings of cosmic
connection, and our understanding of the evolutionary journey of the
human family.
Duane Elgin has dedicated his life to writing and speaking about our world in transition: on the staff of a Presidential Commission on the American Future; as a senior social scientist at a major think tank (SRI International) doing studies on the long range future; co-authoring a book with the eminent scholar, Joseph Campbell, Changing Images of Man; and writing seminal books that include Awakening Earth, Promise Ahead, The Living Universe, and Voluntary Simplicity. He has also co-founded three trans-partisan organizations working for media accountability and citizen empowerment. Duane received the International Goi Peace Award in recognition of his contribution to a global “vision, consciousness, and lifestyle” that fosters a “more sustainable and spiritual culture.” He earned an MA in economic history from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School.
