Honor Native Land

US Department of Arts and Culture
New York, NY

The US Department of Arts and Culture (USDAC) is a grassroots action network working to shape a culture of empathy, equity, and belonging. Radically inclusive and vibrantly playful, USDAC offers pathways of engagement for any individual or organization eager to deepen their commitment to creativity and social change.

In 2017, USDAC launched “Honor Native Land: A Guide and Call to Acknowledgment,” a campaign created in partnership with Native allies and organizations. #HonorNativeLand aims to spread the practice of acknowledging the original Indigenous inhabitants of the land at the opening of all public gatherings—a simple, powerful way of showing respect, and a step toward inviting and honoring truth about Indigenous people’s history and culture. The guide includes instructions for how to offer acknowledgment as well as tips for moving beyond acknowledgment into action.
