First Light

First Light is a co-creation between Maine Tribes and numerous non-native land-oriented organizations across Wabanaki homelands. Together, the collaborative is helping relearn the stories of these lands, recenter Wabanaki voices, and return land, money, and decision-making authority to Wabanaki communities. Over 40,000 acres have been returned through a number of projects. Additionally, the collaboration has created the first Wabanaki foundation for land relationship to help grant legal access to thousands of more acres, and build relationships that allow Maine people to move forward together with the trust and momentum for systemic change.
