Salish School of Spokane (SSoS) is an urban Salish immersion private school. Through a fluency transfer system and dynamic language pedagogy, SSoS is revitalizing the highly endangered Colville Salish language while powering cultural renewal and building a stronger, healthier community. In addition to offering a full education, SSoS provides students with immersive cultural experiences as well as Salish language classes for parents and the community. As a field builder, SSoS supports other Indigenous communities in the United States and Canada in their language revitalization efforts.
The Salish School of Spokane is a Native-led nonprofit organization that offers childcare and elementary school for families in the City of Spokane and surrounding areas. It is one of the few urban-based Indigenous language schools in the country.
In the next 100 years, half of the world’s languages could go extinct. But a family and a school in Washington are committed to saving one of them.
